â–¼   Tenure-Track (Open Rank) Aquatic Ecotoxicology University of Southern Mississippi Deadline: October 31, 2025

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities:

We seek a scientist with a focus on aquatic ecotoxicology who investigates questions related to organismal responses to current and future anthropogenic stressors and contaminants. Potential areas of research include but are not limited to molecular, biochemical, and rganismal responses to contaminants (e.g., metals, pesticides, petroleum, pharmaceuticals, and/or emerging contaminants); mechanisms of toxicity; and multi-stressor experimental research. The successful candidate will be expected to use a custom-built, state-of-the-art 11,000 ft2 biosafety level 2 toxicology facility.  This facility contains two aquatic exposure chambers and is supported by an in-house aquaculture lab, molecular biology lab, and instrumentation lab. It is capable of precise flow-through control of a wide range of environmental variables and toxins. The candidate will be expected to:

(1) develop a strong, nationally recognized and externally funded research program;

(2) publish in peer-reviewed literature;

(3) mentor graduate students and undergraduate students;

(4) deliver engaging instruction, contributing to the educational mission of COA and SOSE by developing and teaching graduate and undergraduate courses related to aquatic ecotoxicology and broader coastal/marine sciences;

(5) engage in service activates to COA, SOSE, and USM; and

(6) Foster collaborations across USM's diverse academic units. Evaluation of applications will consider the potential of candidates to develop collaboration with other USM academic units including the Division of Marine Science.

Minimum Qualifications:

A Ph.D. and postdoctoral experience in a relevant discipline. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without the need for visa sponsorship. The University will not sponsor applicants for work visas (e.g., H-1B).

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

Publication in peer-reviewed literature and a record of scholarship, service, and grant development appropriate for the applicant’s rank.

â–¼   Professor of Practice Faculty Position Tulane University     New Orleans, LA Deadline: September 15, 2025

The Department of Ecology and Biology in the School of Science and Engineering at Tulane University in New Orleans announces a Professor of Practice position with a focus in marine biology with an anticipated start date of January 1, 2026. The successful candidate will teach lecture and laboratory courses in EEB, such as but not limited to:

  • Diversity of Life
  • Mechanisms of Life
  • Marine Biology
  • Oceans and Human Health
  • Sharks and their Relatives
  • Marine Invertebrates
  • or other as complementary to our course catalog.

Specific responsibilities of the nine-month appointment include:

  • teaching the equivalent of three courses each semester
  • advising EEB majors and marine biology minors (major and non-major tracks)
  • serving on department, program, and university committees

Professors of Practice hold three-year renewable contracts and after serving two three-year terms are eligible for promotion to Senior Professor of Practice with five and seven year renewal terms

Ph.D. in Biology or related field prior to December 15, 2026

â–¼   Friends of Pando Seeking quaking aspen GIS Data Analysis Consultant for the Pando Living Map Project  

Friends of Pando, is working and dedicated to educating the public, supporting research and preservation efforts, and inspiring stewardship of the Pando Tree, the largest tree in the world. An official partner to Fishlake National Forest, our organization undertakes work to protect, monitor and restore this unique tree to ensure it can be enjoyed by generations to come. Our organization is seeking a candidate for a part-time, flexible role helping us improve management and protection of Pando through remote sensing projects. The candidate will work with the team to develop strategies and protocols to leverage LiDar data sets to better understand and monitor the tree’s health over time. While this is a part/flexible opportunity, this project also carries potential for publication credits on remote sensing on a natural subject known the world over.  

Responsibilities

1. Assist Friends of Pando and our partners in evaluating data sources EX: point clouds and shape files
2. Assist team with development of plot strategies working with Arc Gis or similar tools
3. Work with team to marry plots maps and data sources
4. Work with the team to evaluate and test methods to improve data pipeline 
5. Work with he team to document methods 
6. Work with team to replicate results 

Requirements

1. Must be experienced Arc Gis Pro user

2. Must have work experience using LiDar data sources (RGB, ordered and unordered)  

3. Must have laptop and availability to work as a member of a remote project team
4. Must be available for part time and flexible between late May of 2025 and late December of 2025. (This role is part time flexible)
5. Background in any one of the following domains preferred; botany, silviculture, GiS, ecology, data visualization
